Target Group
The employer should carefully select the correct person for the job as instructor. They should be literate and numerate with good presentation skills. The R.T.I.T.B recommends that candidates have a minimum of 12 months operating experience before they attend the course. At the end of the course the selected person will have to demonstrate their skills to the R.T.I.T.B Services Examiner
Assessment and Certification
Candidates are examined in the following areas:
- Personal Operating Ability to Instructor Standard
- Practical Basic Operating Skills test with no more than 25 penalties
- Practical Instructional Ability
- Associated Knowledge (multiple choice question paper)
Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be awarded with a RTITB Fork lift truck instructor certificate. This is currently valid for 5 years.

Target Group
This course is designed for those operatives who use mobile powered access equipment.
Assessment and Certification
You will complete a pass/fail theory test, practical training and a practical assessment throughout the duration of the course. Once you have passed the assessments, you will be issued with a PAL (Powered Access Licence) photo ID card approximately a week after the course. These are currently valid for 5 years. Alternatively, from June 2021 you can download the IPAF ePAL App. The app will be free to use and will feature a digital IPAF PAL Card, operator logbook and operator safety guides. It will also allow operators to receive the latest IPAF safety information and best practice guidance, allowing construction managers to quickly and easily verify an operative’s qualifications, as well as for the operator to log and share their equipment time digitally.

This course is made up of classroom and practical based learning.
Course Requirements
It is required that all candidates provide PPE helmets, safety footwear, hi vis vests/jacket, gloves and harness on the day. It is essential that delegates must bring along with them to the course a full body harness and short or adjustable restraint lanyard. The practical part of the course can be taken inside and outside. Photographs will be taken on the day for the IPAF ID cards. *If you are attending the Self Propelled Boom (Cherry Picker) please provide body harness and restraint lanyard if you have them with proof of thorough inspection. These will be provided to candidates who do not have them. It is also required that you are fit and healthy to complete the practical element of the course.

IPAF Harness
Mobile Access Platforms – IPAF (International Powered Access Federation)
Course Overview (Benefits)
• Delegates will be able to identify and select the correct form of harness and lanyard, and be able to inspect both the harness and lanyard as requirement of the PPE regulations and sign them off for the whole 12 months for the whole company. It is a requirement that all candidates provide PPE: helmets, safety footwear, hi-vis vests/jacket (weatherproof), gloves on the day. Photographs will be taken on the day for the PASMA ID cards. During the course all candidates will be expected to assemble a tower and be able to work at a minimum height of 4 metres.

Course Overview (Benefits)
This one-day course takes place prior to the RTITB Instructor course and gives the candidates the practical skills to operate the truck to a professional level needed in order to be able to demonstrate practical skills competently and professionally to potentially students, and be able to progress on to the instructor course where they will learn the techniques and legislation to be able to teach people how to safely operate forklift trucks. The course complies with the approved code of practice issued by the Health & Safety Commission.

Course Content/topics covered
The Advanced Operational Competence Test ensures that delegates with proven ability on specific types of machine are assessed and trained in the methods and techniques required for the qualified instruction of lift truck operators, and can proceed onto the Instructor programme.
Course Duration

Target Group
Candidates must have passed an accredited by an ABA member) operator course within 3 years and completed the eTruck course. Upon completion, the candidate will progress onto the Instructor course.
Assessment and Certification
The Advanced Operational Competence Test will consist of:
• Practical skills test - maximum 25 penalties
• Pre-use test
Upon successful completion of this course, delegates will be awarded with an Advanced Operational Competence Test certificate which is required to progress onto the Instructor course.

Training will take place at our Head Office in Horwich.

This course is made up of classroom and practical based learning.
Course Requirements
This course ensures that delegates are assessed and tested to an Advanced Operational standard in order to progress onto the Instructor programme. Attendees of the advanced operational competence course should have good operational skills already.
RTITB Eligibility Requirements:
Candidates must have passed an accredited (by an ABA member) operator course within 3 years of the Instructor course start date.
Candidates must have successfully completed and passed the eTruck eLearning course within 3 years of the instructor course start date.
