Face Fit Testing
Face Fit Testing – Alliance Learning Certified
£38 +VAT
Course Overview (Benefits)
Many people use respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to reduce their exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace. But many of these people are not getting the protection they think they are.
Ask yourself:
- Does the RPE you provide to each employee fit them properly?
- Would you know if changes occur which could affect and reduce the fit?
- Have any face fit tests which have been carried out been conducted by a competent tester?
Remember it is a legal requirement that workers who use tight fitting respiratory protective equipment must be fit tested by a competent person; refer to COSHH, CLAW and CAR and Ionising Radiation Regulations or further details.
Target Group
Face fit testing is a legal requirement for anyone who wears a tight (or close) fitting mask for work.
Assessment and Certification
Alliance Learning uses the qualitative Face Fit test method test which can only be carried out on half masks. The test takes around 20- 30 minutes and involves wearing a hood over the head and shoulders. The tester sprays a bitter/sweet tasting solution into the hood whilst the delegate carries out a series of exercises, i.e. turning head from side to side. If the wearer can taste the solution, then the mask does not fit correctly resulting in a failed test. On passing the test you will be issued with an Alliance Learning Face Fit test certificate.
Location of the training
Training can be delivered at our Head Office in Horwich or onsite (site survey would be required).

- If candidate wear any other PPE in conjunction with their respiratory mask please ensure this is available on the test day to ensure correct fit.
-You must not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum at least 30 minutes prior to testing.
