Last year, we were honoured to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton to Alliance Learning — a visit that quickly turned into something even more memorable.

During his time with us, the Mayor and Mayoress had the opportunity to see first-hand the dedication, enthusiasm, and technical ability of our apprentices. From engaging conversations with learners to observing the high standard of work being produced in our workshops, it was a visit that celebrated the value of hands-on training and the future of skilled industries.

But the story didn’t end there.

Shortly after his visit, the Mayor got in touch with a special request — one that perfectly combined creativity with craftsmanship. He asked whether our talented Metal Fabricator apprentices could create another elephant for the Mayor’s Parlour. It was a unique and exciting brief, and one we were absolutely delighted to take on.

Projects like this provide an incredible opportunity for our apprentices to step beyond the usual scope of their training and apply their skills in a meaningful, real-world context. With enthusiasm and pride, apprentices from Pure Fabs, LA Fabrications, and Folsana came together to bring the idea to life. Working collaboratively under the guidance of our Fabrication & Welding Lead, Scott, they carefully planned, designed, and constructed the piece.

From selecting materials to refining the smallest details, every stage of the process required precision, teamwork, and problem-solving. It wasn’t just about creating a finished product — it was about learning how to interpret a brief, manage a project, and deliver something truly special to a client.

The result was a striking piece that reflects not only technical excellence but also the creativity and dedication of everyone involved.

Earlier this week, the apprentices had the privilege of visiting the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton to personally hand-deliver their creation. This was a proud and rewarding moment — a chance for the learners to see the impact of their work beyond the workshop and to present it in such a important setting.

Experiences like this are invaluable. They help build confidence, reinforce the importance of quality and professionalism, and give apprentices a genuine sense of achievement. It’s these opportunities that help shape not just skilled workers, but well-rounded individuals ready to thrive in their careers.
