Engineering Diploma at our Academy   (14-16 Year Olds)

academy

As part of our continuing partnership with schools in the area, from September 2008, Alliance Learning is offering the opportunity, for students to acquire engineering skills via the Government’s new Engineering Diploma Programme. The Diploma can be chosen as an option for study in Year’s 10 & 11.

Why Choose the Engineering Diploma?

The Engineering Diploma at the Alliance Learning Academy aims to provide young people with a first chance to find out about engineering without committing to a specific career.  Engineering offers a wide selection of career options many of which play an important social role, give opportunities to not only experience but also contribute towards the development of the latest technology, give good financial rewards and the recognition of professional status.

Regardless of academic aspiration, the Diploma will allow students to spend some of their study time outside the classroom, perhaps engaging in hands-on activities in a workshop, seeing the latest engineering technology in use, or working on a project with other students.

What does the Engineering Diploma Involve?

The Engineering Diploma will cover a range of engineering skills that will include; mechanical, electrical, fabrication and welding, computer aided drawing, hydraulics, maths, English and ICT. Courses will span over two academic years and involve attendance at the Alliance Learning Academy for 2 days per week. Diplomas are available at two different levels:

• Foundation Level - equivalent to 5 GCSE’s at grades A*-C
• Higher Level - equivalent to 7 GCSE’s at grades A*-C

At each level there are compulsory units that must be completed and students have the flexibility to choose from a wide range of additional units that are part of the Engineering Diploma to meet their personal interest and career goals.

In addition to the course units, all students will complete a project to demonstrate the skills and knowledge that they have acquired and complete a minimum of 10 days work experience over the two year study period for 1 day or a half day per week.

What will the Diploma Lead to?

Students that complete the Foundation or Higher Diploma can choose to complete an Advanced Diploma or go on to A Levels. They could also decide to start an Apprenticeship or take a job with further training.

As an Employer, Why Choose an Apprentice from the Engineering Academy?

Our flagship Engineering Academy can provide North West businesses with ‘work ready’students who have been primed to enter the world of employment. The academy harnesses their passion and enthusiasm and provides students with a taste of what it is really like working in the industry, before they are recruited as apprentices. Students are ‘work ready’ and fully equipped to be placed in supportive companies in order to progress their already established skills.

On completion of their two years training with Alliance, the students have a good attitude and a sound understanding of engineering and are available to work for companies on a one-day-per-week basis, effectively as a fast track apprentice. By choosing a youngster from our Engineering Academy you can benefit from their proven ability and knowledge, saving you time and inconvenience – ensuring you invest in the best.
