Frequently Asked Questions
Q - Can I do my learning at home?
A - Yes, provided you have a broadband internet connection.
Q - Are the courses really free?
A - Maths and English courses are free for all UK adults who need to update and improve their skills. Other courses such as ECDL can be free depending on your personal circumstances and existing qualifications.
Q - How often do I have to attend the centre?
A - The learning is flexible and can fit around your other commitments. When you enrol, you will agree with your tutor how long your learning will take and plan your programme to ensure you complete within the timescale set.
Q - Will I have to take exams?
A - In order to achieve your qualification, there will be a final test to take but don't worry, you'll have plenty of opportunity to practice before you attempt the real thing.
Q - What happens if I get stuck?
A - Our tutors are always on hand to help and they have plenty of alternative learning materials should you need them. If you're learning from home, they can help you over the phone or by e-mail.
Q - What sort of qualifications can I get?
A - There's a big choice and all qualifications are accredited. You could start with a National Certificate in Adult Literacy or Numeracy (or both) then move on to the ECDL - an IT qualification instantly recognised by most employers. We even offer ILM Leadership and Management qualifications if you want to progress at work or get a promotion.
Q - Are there any age restrictions for learndirect learners?
A - You must be over 19 years of age but there is no upper age limit.
Q - How will I know whether I'm on track with my learning?
A - Your tutor will conduct regular reviews with you throughout your learning. These will enable you to keep a check on your progress and make sure you are staying on schedule.
Q - Can I come into the centre any time I like?
A - We operate a diary system and advise learners to book their visits in advance to be sure we will have a place available for them.
