14 July 2010

Two students from Alliance Learning, have landed a prestigious Aim Higher award for exceptional dedication to their training development.

Shaun Rogerson and Mary Croft were both presented with one of twelve Apprenticeship accolades at this year’s Greater Manchester Aimhigher award ceremony, held at Salford University on the 30th June.

Both have completed an Apprenticeship in Engineering and are part way through their Advanced Apprenticeships. They have also undertaken the Step in to HE course, which was delivered at Alliance Learning, and have passed this with great acclaim.

X Factor star Shaun, who shot to fame on the 2006 series of the popular reality show, demonstrated exceptional skills, a hard working perseverance and a strong work ethic in his apprenticeship placement at Leigh based engineering firm, Travtec Ltd.

Gerry Lawrenson, Shaun’s Learning Development Officer said:
“Through his hard work and determination to succeed Shaun has made great achievement including winning Alliance Learning apprentice of the year award 2010.”

The 21 year old from Wigan was also asked to sing at the Awards Evening.

Mary, who started her training at Alliance Learning on a Programme Led Apprenticeship, now works at APPH, an engineering manufacturer in Bolton. Mary’s commitment and drive to succeed in a male dominated environment has seen her excel within her chosen profession, with an abundance of awards and praise from her peers.

Still only 19 years old, Mary has also been put forward for the National Aimhigher Awards which celebrates the work of Aimhigher learner beneficiaries and the staff who support them, on a much larger scale. Short listed entries are due to be announced in mid-July, with the award ceremony taking place in October.

Dennis Malloy, Mary’s Learning Development Officer said:
“Mary is committed to achieving her full potential; she is very hardworking and popular with work, friends and peers.”

Alliance Learning is an Aimhigher WBL Partner Provider that works with Aimhigher to ensure the right opportunities are put within the reach of their Apprentices.
